Metamorphic Rocks Building Materials
My husband is a tile contractor and he works with many different metamorphic materials. The main one he uses is marble, and quartzite. We are remodeling our kitchen and he is tiling the entire kitchen. Here I have shown a trim piece we are using that is marble. Marble is a metamorphic rock usually made of calcite crystals, quartz, pyrite, mica, and clays. Marble is usually white (calcite). Marble is porous and can stain or change color as time goes on. I don't like to use very much marble because it is porous, quartzite is also porous.
The tile that we used to have in our entryway was slate which is a metamorphic rock can be made of shale and mudstone. Slate is formed by compression and appears to have layers.
Here you can see our old fireplace made of slate.
And here is the new marble stone we put on our fireplace.
