Climate Changes with an Increase in Wildfires

Image
Living next to the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, the most evident result of climate change that I have seen has been wildfires. We now have a "Wildfire Season". I found an article written by someone who grew up in Quincy California which is not far from me in the mountains. Richard Bednarski who wrote the article said this about climate change and the fires, "Climate change has thrown some curveballs into wildfire activity. Fires not only burn for a longer stretch of time, as seen with last year’s Dixie fire, but they are becoming larger and larger." We are seeing temperatures increasing and humidity lowering. The area is drying out which can result in these brutal wildfires that we see every year. My kids have had to lose several school days due to hazardous smoke in the area. "While fires were common, they were never larger than 100,000 acres, let alone hundreds of thousands of acres" (Bednarski). This past winter we had record snowfall which has giv

Arctic Mid Ocean Ridge

Image
The Arctic Mid Ocean Ridge is located north of Greenland in the Arctic Ocean brrrr... The profile line that I drew and used for a profile reference is labeled in the photo and is 183mi in length. You can see the visual of the different elevations in that area of the ridge. At the lowest point it is around 15,000ft below sea level. At the tallest point in the ridge of this section it reaches around 6,000ft below sea level. The profile topography is varied and changes in slope greatly and often. In this picture I have labeled the ridge with the perpindicular line being the profile I measured. The circle is a plateau area next to the ridge. You can see how these two areas came together to make the ridge.
